Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and
streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
The inland trough will remain near stationary over the eastern interior and
central areas of the state into and through the weekend. The weak ridge along
most of the southern coast of Queensland will firm during Wednesday and Thursday
before weakening again over the weekend. An upper trough will decay over
south-east Queensland on Thursday as a new upper trough system moves into
south-eastern Australia.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Scattered showers and/or storms over most eastern and far northern districts.
Some moderate to heavy falls likely. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate S'ly
winds over much of the interior. Light to moderate NW to NE winds about the
tropical coasts with light to moderate SE to NE winds about the southern coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper level trough and associated surface trough will drift eastwards and
will again produce showers and/or thunderstorms over most eastern and far
northern districts of the state. Some moderate to heavy falls likely. Some early
patchy rain with thunder will occur about the south-east corner. Fine conditions
will continue elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper level trough will weaken and move seawards as a new upper trough
system moves into south-eastern australia. So only isolated showers will occur
over the south-east and central coast area. Showers and storms will continue
over the far northern tropics. Fine weather will continue elsewhere.
Forecast for Friday
The new upper level trough system will move into Queensland and again
destabilize conditions over most of the south-east and Central Coast area. So
showers and storms will occur over the south-east inland and Central Coast area.
Showers and storms will continue in the far north while isolated showers will
occur about the Herbert Burdekin area and along exposed parts of the far
southern coast. Fine weather will continue over the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Saturday
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
A upper trough will remain over inland Queensland but in a weak state. The
inland trough will drift westwards a little but high moisture levels will
continue about east coast districts and the eastern interior. So further showers
and/or storms will occur in these areas. Over the far north of the state showers
and storms will continue in the monsoonal air mass. Over the remainder of the
state fine conditions will continue. Generally, temperatures will remain near
to below average over southern areas of the state and near to above average
across the north of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
