MELBOURNE - Feb 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation The inland trough will remain near stationary over the eastern interior and central areas of the state into and through the weekend. The weak ridge along most of the southern coast of Queensland will firm during Wednesday and Thursday before weakening again over the weekend. An upper trough will decay over south-east Queensland on Thursday as a new upper trough system moves into south-eastern Australia. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Scattered showers and/or storms over most eastern and far northern districts. Some moderate to heavy falls likely. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate S'ly winds over much of the interior. Light to moderate NW to NE winds about the tropical coasts with light to moderate SE to NE winds about the southern coast. Forecast for Wednesday The upper level trough and associated surface trough will drift eastwards and will again produce showers and/or thunderstorms over most eastern and far northern districts of the state. Some moderate to heavy falls likely. Some early patchy rain with thunder will occur about the south-east corner. Fine conditions will continue elsewhere. Forecast for Thursday The upper level trough will weaken and move seawards as a new upper trough system moves into south-eastern australia. So only isolated showers will occur over the south-east and central coast area. Showers and storms will continue over the far northern tropics. Fine weather will continue elsewhere. Forecast for Friday The new upper level trough system will move into Queensland and again destabilize conditions over most of the south-east and Central Coast area. So showers and storms will occur over the south-east inland and Central Coast area. Showers and storms will continue in the far north while isolated showers will occur about the Herbert Burdekin area and along exposed parts of the far southern coast. Fine weather will continue over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Saturday Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday A upper trough will remain over inland Queensland but in a weak state. The inland trough will drift westwards a little but high moisture levels will continue about east coast districts and the eastern interior. So further showers and/or storms will occur in these areas. Over the far north of the state showers and storms will continue in the monsoonal air mass. Over the remainder of the state fine conditions will continue. Generally, temperatures will remain near to below average over southern areas of the state and near to above average across the north of the state.
