MELBOURNE - Feb 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak high pressure ridge extending across southern Victoria will move over Tasmania during Wednesday. A high pressure system associated with the ridge will be located south of the Bight on Thursday while a low pressure trough develops over northern Victoria. The high will move eastwards on Friday as an upper level cold pool of air moves over western Victoria. By Saturday the trough over northern Victoria and the upper cold pool may weaken slightly as the high continues its slow progression eastwards. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated light showers over Gippsland this evening. Moderate south to southwesterly winds, locally fresh near the coast.Wednesday 8 FebruaryFine apart from isolated morning showers or drizzle over East Gippsland and near the coast. Showers contracting to the far eastern ranges in the afternoon. A mild and partly cloudy day with light to moderate southerly winds.Fire Danger - Low to Moderate in the northwest and southeast. High elsewhere.Thursday 9 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms developing over the east. Mostly dry elsewhere, just some isolated showers or drizzle developing about the Otway Ranges. A mild and partly cloudy day with light winds in the north tending moderate to fresh south to southeasterly in the south.Friday 10 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and tending more widespread over eastern districts. A mild day with moderate east to southeast winds, fresh to strong near the coast but lighter over the northeast.Saturday 11 FebruaryIsolated showers, mainly in the afternoon and tending more widespread over southern and eastern districts. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the northeast.
