MELBOURNE - Feb 6/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough over inland Queensland will remain over the area for the rest of the week. A weak trough will move northwards along the southern and central coast of Queensland over the next few days. A series of upper troughs will move across the state during the week. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Scattered showers and storms over most eastern and far northern districts. Fine over most of the west of the state. Light to moderate S to SW winds over much of the interior. Light to moderate NW to NE winds about the tropical coasts, and moderate to fresh SE winds about the southeast coast. Forecast for Wednesday The upper level trough and associated surface trough will drift eastwards and will again produce showers and thunderstorms over most eastern and far northern districts of the state. Areas of patchy early morning rain are also expected about the southeast. Remaining fine over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Thursday The upper level trough should weaken, resulting in only isolated showers over the southeast districts and the Central Highlands and Coalfields. Isolated showers and storms are expected in the remaining eastern districts, and the west of the state will remain fine. Forecast for Friday A weak upper level trough should lie over the southern interior, and this feature, along with a weak onshore flow is expected to produce mainly isolated showers and storms over most of the eastern districts. Remaining fine over the western districts and the central interior. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday A weak upper trough should remain over the southern interior during the weekend and early into the new week, causing further showers and storms over the eastern districts. Fine conditions should continue through most of the interior during the weekend and into Monday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Tuesday.
