MELBOURNE - Feb 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough over South Australia will continue moving eastwards, entering western Victoria this morning and reaching eastern Victoria late Sunday afternoon and evening. A cold front will follow across southern Victoria a few hours after the trough and an associated low will develop to the west of Tasmania before deepening and moving southeastwards on Monday. A weak cold front will brush the Victorian coast late Monday. A weak high pressure ridge will extend across the State on Tuesday, before moving over Tasmania on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SundayA band of rain developing across the southwest in the morning then extending eastwards to central areas in the afternoon and becoming patchy by the time it reaches the east in the evening. Strengthening hot northerly wind ahead of the rain then a cooler fresh and gusty west to southwesterly change with the rainband. Only a little rain reaching far northern areas but local thunderstorms possible near the change in most regions. Dust areas with the change in the northwest. Isolated showers about the coast following the rain band.Fire Danger - Very high, reaching severe in the northwest.Monday 6 FebruaryIsolated showers in the south, contracting to the southwest coast during the day. Mostly sunny in the north. A cool to mild day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds.Tuesday 7 FebruaryPartly cloudy with isolated showers in the south. Dry and mainly sunny in the north. Generally mild with moderate southwesterly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Wednesday 8 FebruaryFine apart from isolated showers near the coast and in the far east.
