Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between Cooktown
and Bowen.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for gusty winds over parts of the North
Tropical Coast and Tablelands district.
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.

Weather Situation
At 3pm EST, a tropical low was located over the northwestern Coral Sea
approximately 420km east of Cairns. The low may form into a tropical cyclone but
will move east southeast away from the Queensland coast over the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Fine over a lot of the state.  Just some isolated squally showers and storms
over Cape York Peninsula and far northern Gulf Country, and some showers and
areas of rain also about the northeast coast and northern interior, gradually
easing overnight. Mainly fine over the flooded areas of the state's interior,
except for some isolated light showers over the Maranoa region.  Moderate to
fresh SW to NW winds in the tropics, gusty at times, particularly on and east of
the ranges in the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands district [refer to Severe
Weather Warning]. Light to moderate mostly SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Sunday
Remaining fine over a lot of the state, though with areas of morning fog
possible over the southern and central inland.  Mainly fine over the Central
Highlands except for some isolated light showers.  Onshore winds around the
outer edges of the tropical low should push some showers over the northeast
coast and nearby inland areas, and there is the chance of some afternoon storms
over the Herbert and Lower Burdekin region.  Isolated showers and storms over
the Peninsula district. Light to moderate SE to SW winds over the southern and
central districts, fresh at times about the South Australian border.  Light to
moderate W to NW winds elsewhere, gusty at times about the far north.
Forecast for Monday
A new high will move into the Great Australian Bight, maintaining fine
conditions over the southern and central districts. Mainly isolated showers and
storms through the far northern tropics, and some isolated showers about the
northeast and central coasts and nearby inland areas.
Forecast for Tuesday
A new upper level trough will move east into Queensland, while humidity
levels will very gradually build over the eastern districts, resulting in mainly
isolated showers and storms east of a line from around Richmond to St. George.
Higher humidity levels should result in more widespread showers and storms over
the northern tropics.
Forecast for Wednesday
A surface trough should combine with the upper level trough to produce a
region of scattered showers over the eastern districts east of a line from
around Richmond to St. George. Scattered showers and storms are also likely over
the northern tropics.  Fine over the rest of the state.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Showers and storms should remain over the eastern districts late in the
working week, before easing and contracting towards the coast as the upper
trough moves offshore.  Showers and storms are expected to continue over the
northern tropics, and the interior should remain fine.

Sunday.
