MELBOURNE - Jan 31/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system east of Tasmania will move rapidly across the Tasman Sea tonight. A high pressure system south of the Bight will move past southern Tasmania on Wednesday night then over the southern Tasman to lie southeast of New Zealand on Friday. A ridge will persist from this high back to Bass Strait on Friday then a low pressure trough will cross South Australia on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers near the coast, otherwise fine and cool. Moderate to locally fresh southerly wind.Wednesday 1 FebruaryIsolated showers in Gippsland and light showers possible near the west and central coast in the morning. A mild day, mostly sunny in the north. Moderate south to southeasterly wind, freshening near the coast in the afternoon.Fire Danger - Moderate grading to high in the west.Thursday 2 FebruaryIsolated showers developing in the east and some northern areas, mostly in the afternoon with the risk of afternoon thunderstorms north of the divide. Warm inland with generally light east to southeasterly winds, milder near the coast with fresh afternoon seabreezes.Friday 3 FebruaryIsolated showers and the risk of thunderstorms about the ranges. A warm day with generally light wind and afternoon coastal sea breezes.Saturday 4 FebruaryFine apart from isolated afternoon showers developing on the eastern highlands.
