trough will strengthen over central areas of the state from Tuesday. The monsoon
trough has become established over the far north of the state, and will remain
in the area and strengthen into the middle of the week. A weak ridge over the
southwestern Coral Sea will drift onto the east coast into mid-week.

Cape York Peninsula. Showers and thunderstorms north of about Gladstone and over
most of the interior, although more isolated in the far south. Scattered showers
and drizzle areas over the southeast, decreasing in the afternoon. Moderate SE
to NE winds along the east coast, tending moderate to fresh NW'ly over the far
north tropics. Mostly light winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
Showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with some moderate to heavy falls over
the northern tropics. Scattered showers and thunderstorms through the southern
tropics and into the central and southern interior, tending to rain at night
with some possible moderate to heavy falls about the interior. Isolated showers
and thunderstorms in the west, though fine in the far southwest. Isolated
showers about the remaining eastern districts. Moderate SE to NE winds along the
east coast, tending moderate to fresh and strong NW'ly over the far north
tropics. Mostly light winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Wednesday
The inland trough will remain in place over the interior state while ridging
will firm along the southern and central coasts of Queensland. Relatively stable
conditions with isolated showers over the southeast corner. Fine conditions over
the far southwest. Elsewhere, showers and storms will continue. Some rain areas
and moderate to heavy falls expected over the northern tropics and parts of the
interior. Fresh to strong NW monsoon winds will continue in the far north.
Forecast for Thursday
Vigorous monsoon flow is likely to continue over the far north and northern
Coral Sea, with a low likely to develop on the trough over the northwest Coral
Sea and move eastwards. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the central and
southern interior, tending to rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to
heavy falls about the far north and the east coast north of about Bowen. A few
showers over the southeast corner. Remaining fine in the far southwest.

Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday

during the weekend. So further gusty monsoonal showers, storms and rain areas
will continue over the area. The low on the monsoon trough is likely to move
further east. The inland trough will move into western districts of the state
and will again trigger showers and storms near and to the east of the system.
Ridging will continue along the southern and central coasts and maintain
moderate SE winds and a few showers in exposed coastal areas.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
