MELBOURNE - Jan 28/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
The Severe Weather Warning for the Maranoa and Warrego
district has now been cancelled.
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
At 4am EST a low was located over the Warrego region and was moving steadily
southwards. The low is expected to move into New South Wales by around midday.
An upper level trough over South Australia will move over the Channel Country on
Monday, and is expected to remain there until mid week, before passing over the
state's southeast on Thursday. An inland trough will reform and strengthen over
central areas of the state from Monday. The monsoon trough will become
established over the far north of the state from Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Morning rain areas with gusty storms over the Maranoa and Warrego and the
western parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts, breaking to
mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Rain and drizzle
over the southeast districts, with areas of fog and gusty conditions about the
ranges. Mainly isolated showers and storms over the remaining eastern districts
and the northern tropics, tending more widespread and with areas of patchy rain
about the Gulf Country and the Peninsula district. Mainly fine over the central
west and southwest of the state, though with some isolated showers and storms.
Moderate to fresh E to NE winds about the southeast districts, gusty around the
ranges. Light to moderate NE to NW over the remainder of the state, fresh about
the Gulf of Carpentaria coast.
Forecast for Monday
The inland trough will reform over south-west of the state, and dry air
behind it should leave conditions fine over the western reaches of the Channel
Country district. Humid air east of the trough should allow showers and storms
to occur in most remaining areas, with more widespread activity over the central
areas of the state. Widespread gusty monsoonal showers, storms and rain areas
over the Peninsula district. Moist onshore winds should produce areas of
drizzle and showers over the southeast districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The trough will remain well inland and is expected to trigger showers and
storms over most of the state's interior, more widespread over the southern and
central interior and only isolated over the Channel Country. Gusty monsoonal
showers, storms and rain areas continuing over the Peninsula district. A
weakening of the onshore flow should allow for fine conditions over the
southeast, while showers are expected about the central coast and the northern
parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields district.
Forecast for Wednesday
The inland trough will remain over the state's interior and will link to a
frontal system moving northwards along the far northern New South Wales coast.
This front will move onto the far southern coast during the day and then retreat
southwards out of the state overnight, producing some showers and possibly some
isolated storms about the southeast. Showers and storms will continue over most
of the state's interior, while gusty monsoonal showers, storms and rain areas
should continue over the Peninsula district. A weak onshore flow should keep
conditions mainly fine over the Wide Bay and Capricornia districts, though
showers are possible about the central coast and showers should spread to areas
of rain near the monsoon trough over the North Tropical Coast between around
Cooktown and Townsville.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The monsoon trough will remain active across the southern reaches of the Gulf
of Carpentaria and southern Cape York Peninsula, maintaining the gusty monsoonal
showers, storms and rain areas over the area. The inland trough will move into
western districts of the state and will again trigger showers and storms near
and to the east of the system. Weak ridging will build over much of the
south-east and keep conditions mostly fine. Showers and rain periods persisting
over the North Tropical Coast south of the monsoon trough between around
Cooktown and Townsville.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
