Warrego, far southern parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields and western
parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.

Weather Situation
A monsoon low was located to the west of Longreach and was continuing to move
in a general S'ly direction. It is expected to move into New South Wales in a
very weakened mode Sunday afternoon. An upper level trough over South Australia
will move into south-west on Monday and then move away late Tuesday. The inland
trough will reform and strengthen over central areas of the state from Monday
onwards. The monsoon trough will move northwards and become established over the
far north of the state from Monday onwards.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Rain areas with thunderstorms and some locally moderate to heavy falls will
occur over southern inland areas and the adjacent Central Highlands area.
Showers with patchy rain will continue over the south-east corner. Showers and
storms, mostly scattered, will occur over remaining areas of the state.
Generally moderate E to NE winds will continue over southern areas of the state
and shift W to NW over the north of the state.
Forecast for Sunday
The rain and storms over southern areas will contract into the south-east
corner of the state during the day and out of the state by late evening as the
decaying monsoon low moves into New South Wales. Showers and storms will occur
in most remaining areas of the state and will mostly be scattered about the far
north of Queensland. Fine conditions will occur over the far west of the state.
Winds will be mostly light to moderate NE to NW over the state shifting SE over
the far south-west.
Forecast for Monday
The inland trough will reform over south-west of the state. Fine conditions
will continue to the west of the trough while showers and/or storms will occur
in most remaining areas. This activity will be scattered over central areas of
the state and over the northern tropics where the presence of the monsoon trough
will enhance the activity. About the south-east corner, conditions will be more
stable and consequently only a few showers will occur over the area.
Forecast for Tuesday
The inland trough will remain near stationary over the west of the state and
trigger showers and storms over most areas to the north and east of the system.
Again this activity will be scattered over most inland areas and over the
northern tropics due to the monsoon trough. The NW monsoon will become more
active and consequently the showers and storms will be gusty with rain areas
becoming more widespread. A good scattering of moderate to heavy falls will most
likely occur. About the south-east corner, conditions will continue mostly
stable and as a result only a few showers will occur over the area. Fine
conditions will continue about the far west of the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The inland will remain anchored over the west of the state and will link to a
frontal system moving northwards along the far northern New South Wales coast.
This front will move onto the far southern coast during the day and then retreat
southwards out of the state overnight. Showers and/or storms will continue over
most of the state near and to the north and east of these systems. About the far
north of the state the monsoon trough will remain active and trigger further
showers, storms and rain areas.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The monsoon trough will remain active across the southern Gulf of Carpentaria
and southern Cape York Peninsula. So further widespread showers, storms and rain
areas will occur. The inland trough will move into western districts of the
state and will again trigger showers and storms near and to the east of the
system. Weak ridging will build over much of the south-east and keep conditions
mostly fine.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
