MELBOURNE - Jan 27/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge over Tasmania. A low pressure trough will extend from central Australia into western Victoria over the weekend. A low pressure system will deepen south of the Bight on Sunday and an associated cold front should reach southwest Victoria early Monday morning. The cold front will move rapidly across the state on Monday. with the next high pressure system moving into the Bight on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing during the afternoon, mainly about the ranges and western districts. Fine elsewhere A warm to hot and humid day with light to moderate east to northeasterly winds, tending south to southeasterly over southern districts during the afternoon.Fire Danger - High, reaching very high in the west.Sunday 29 JanuaryA humid and mostly cloudy day with isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly near the ranges and southwest. Moderate north to northeasterly winds with afternoon seabreezes in the south.Monday 30 JanuaryHumid at first with rain areas, local thunderstorms and moderate to fresh northerly winds. Heavy falls possible, especially over central and eastern areas. A cooler, fresh to strong southwest to southerly change in the west during the morning, extending to the east in the afternoon. Rain clearing soon after the change but isolated showers to follow in the south.Tuesday 31 JanuaryIsolated showers in southern and mountain districts, clearing in the morning. Fine and sunny in the north. Cool in the south, mild to warm in the north.
