MELBOURNE - Jan 27/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system near Tasmania is expected to move eastwards reaching the Tasman Sea tonight. A low pressure trough is expected to extend southwards from central Australia into western Victoria late on Saturday and Sunday. At the same time a low pressure system will deepen southwest of Tasmania and an associated cold front should reach southwest Victoria on Sunday night before sweeping across the State on Monday. The next high pressure system will move through the Bight towards Tasmania on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayGenerally fine. Isolated evening showers or thunderstorms possible over the far northwest. A warm to hot and mostly sunny day in the north and west, but mild to warm and partly cloudy in the southeast. Light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds and easing coastal seabreezes.Saturday 28 JanuaryIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing in the far north and about the eastern ranges during the afternoon. Fine in the south. A warm to hot and humid day with light to moderate east to northeasterly winds and afternoon seabreezes near the coast.Fire Danger - High, reaching very high in the west.Sunday 29 JanuaryA humid and mostly cloudy day with areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms developing in the west, extending to central areas later. Moderate to fresh northerly wind.Monday 30 JanuaryHumid at first with rain areas, local thunderstorms and moderate to fresh northerly winds. Heavy falls possible, especially central and eastern areas. A cooler, fresh to strong southwest to southerly change in the west during the morning, extending to the east in the afternoon. Rain clearing soon after the change but isolated showers to follow in the south.Tuesday 31 JanuaryIsolated showers in southern and mountain districts, clearing in the morning. Fine and sunny in the north. Cool in the south, mild to warm in the north.
