Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A slow-moving high pressure system centred over the Tasman Sea is directing a moist easterly airstream across New South Wales, while an upper-level trough remains over the state's north. A weak low pressure trough extends from the Northern Territory into western districts. A second trough, situated near the northern New South Wales and southern Queensland coast, is forecast to weaken somewhat on Wednesday, but may intensify again later in the week. A weak cold front is will pass to the south during Wednesday and Thursday, with a more significant front likely later on the weekend. Until this time conditions are expected to remain showery in most eastern and northern districts of New South Wales, with more widespread rain about the northeast.

Showers and possible thunderstorms elsewhere, tending to rain areas in the northeast with heavy falls likely about parts of the northern coast and ranges. Rain areas and possible thunder in the northeast, more widespread near the coast and adjacent ranges, with heavy falls possible. Isolated showers and possible afternoon thunderstorms elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds.Thursday 26 JanuaryFine and partly cloudy across the southern inland. Rain areas and possible thunder in the northeast, more widespread near the coast and adjacent ranges although easing through the day. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds, turning more southerly in the south later.Friday 27 JanuaryFine over most of the southern inland. Showers elsewhere, tending scattered across the north. Possible thunderstorms in the north. Southeast to northeast winds.Saturday 28 JanuaryScattered showers across northern and central districts, and the chance of showers in the south.
