Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A slow-moving high pressure system centred over the southern Tasman Sea is directing an easterly airstream across New South Wales, while an upper-level trough remains over the state's north. A weak low pressure trough extends from the Northern Territory into western districts, while a second trough is situated off the northern New South Wales and southern Queensland coast. This trough is forecast to move closer to the coast tonight and Tuesday, enhancing rainfall in the northeast of the state. A weak cold front is will pass to the south during Wednesday and Thursday, with a more significant front likely later on the weekend. Until this time conditions are expected to remain showery in most eastern and northern districts of New South Wales, with more widespread rain about the northern coastal districts.
Forecast for the rest of MondayFine across the south. Showers elsewhere increasing to rain about the northern coast and tablelands, with locally heavy falls likely overnight. Possible thunderstorms across the north and west. Southeast to northeast winds.Tuesday 24 JanuaryFine and partly cloudy across the south. Showers and possible thunderstorms elsewhere, with heavy rain likely about parts of the northern coast and ranges during the morning. Southeast to northeast winds.Wednesday 25 JanuaryFine and partly cloudy across the south. Rain areas in the northeast, more widespread near the coast and adjacent ranges, and the chance of thunderstorms. Isolated showers elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds.Thursday 26 JanuaryPartly cloudy in the southern inland. Rain areas in the northeast, widespread near the coast and adjacent ranges. Isolated showers elsewhere.
