Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 20/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge extended along the east coast of Queensland. A high over the
Great Australian Bight will move into the Tasman Sea on Sunday.  An upper trough
over eastern Australia will intensify from Sunday onwards and then move
westwards about the middle of the week.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Fine over the west of the state and about the Darling Downs. Isolated showers
and possible thunderstorms about the southeast coast districts with showers and
storms over most remaining eastern and northern areas of the state. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds about most of the state.
Forecast for Saturday
Fine over the far west of the state and the Darling Downs area. Isolated
showers over south-east coast districts with isolated to scattered showers and
storms over most remaining northern and eastern districts of the state.  Light
to moderate SE to NE winds across most of the state tending fresh about the
central and southern coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move into the Tasman Sea and maintain a firm ridge along the
central and southern coast of Queensland while the upper trough will begin to
intensify. The monsoon trough will also begin to deepen as the monsoon flow
becomes more active. So the showers and storms over the far north of the state
will increase with rain areas and moderate to heavy falls becoming more
prevalent. Isolated showers will continue in southern coastal districts while
showers and storms will continue along most remaining areas of the state and
tend to scattered over the central and southern interior. Fine conditions will
continue over the far south-west of the state.
Forecast for Monday
The upper trough will continue to slowly intensify and will increase the
showers over the south-east corner of the state. Rain areas will most likely
develop in this area as well. Elsewhere over the state showers and storms will
continue in most areas while fine conditions will continue over the far
south-west. Over the north of the state the monsoon trough will continue to slip
southwards and will result in rain areas with moderate to heavy falls becoming
widespread. Instability will increase about the North Tropical Coast with heavy
falls developing.
Forecast for Tuesday
Fine conditions will continue over the south-west due to the dry SE airflow
over the area. The upper trough will slip a little southwards and clear any rain
from the south-east corner. Over remaining areas of the state conditions will
remain unstable and further showers and storms will occur in most areas. Over
the far north of the state the active monsoon will enhance the showers and
storms and will produce widespread rain areas with moderate to heavy falls.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The upper trough will move westwards and this will allow shower and storms
activity to spread across the far south-west of the state and to continue in
most remaining areas. As well, the monsoon trough will slip into the southern
Gulf Country, so showers and storms with rain areas and moderate to heavy falls
will continue widespread across the northern and central tropics.

Saturday.
