Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A slow moving ridge of high pressure lies to the south of Victoria while a trough of low pressure extends from New South Wales to northeastern Victoria. The trough will remain slow moving over eastern Victoria on Friday and Saturday, then weaken on Sunday as a high pressure system consolidates east of Tasmania.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayFine apart from isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms developing over the northeast, mainly about the ranges. Warm to hot and mostly sunny inland, milder and partly cloudy near the coast. Light to moderate south to southeasterly winds, freshening near the coast during the afternoon.Fire Danger -  Low to moderate in the southeast, high elsewhere.Friday 20 JanuaryFine apart from scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the east, mainly during the afternoon. Mild to warm in the south and warm to hot over the north with light to moderate south to southeasterly winds, freshening about the coast in the afternoon.Saturday 21 JanuaryMorning drizzle patches near the coast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the east. Mild to warm in the south and warm to hot over the north with light to moderate southeast to easterly winds, freshening near the coast in the afternoon.Sunday 22 JanuaryFine apart from early light showers in Gippsland, and isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms possible in the northwest. Generally warm to hot and sunny with light to moderate east to northeasterly winds, milder in the southeast with freshening easterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Thursday.Product IDV10310
