MELBOURNE - Jan 18/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system near New Zealand is extending a ridge across central New South Wales, while a low pressure trough lies off the northern coast. The ridge will decay today as a weak cold front moves into the far south of the state. Another high pressure system, currently south of the Bight, is expected to drift slowly east during the next few days, strengthening as it reaches the Tasman Sea during the weekend. There are indications that the trough will remain off the north coast throughout the period, although its exact movement remains uncertain. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayShowers about the northern coast and adjacent ranges. The chance of showers and thunderstorms along the Victorian border, chiefly in the afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds. A southwesterly change across the southern inland later.Thursday 19 JanuaryIsolated showers in the northeast, chiefly along the coast. Chance of morning showers along the central coastal fringe. The chance of showers and thunderstorms across the southern and central inland. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Southwest to southeast winds.Friday 20 JanuaryFine and partly cloudy in the far west. Isolated showers elsewhere, tending scattered about the northern coast. Chance of thunderstorms inland, more likely on the southern ranges. Southeast to northeast winds.Saturday 21 JanuaryFine and partly cloudy in the far southwest and in the northern inland. Isolated showers elsewhere, tending scattered about the northern coast and the southern ranges. Southeast to southwest winds.Sunday 22 January Isolated showers in the far west and in the east, tending scattered about the northern half of the coast and adjacent ranges. Fine and partly cloudy remainder. East to southeast winds inland, southwest to southeast winds along the coast.
