MELBOURNE - Jan 17/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough over southwest Victoria will link up with a cold front today and move eastwards across the state. The trough will reach central districts by early afternoon and will move across eastern districts during the evening. A slow moving ridge of high pressure will form to the south of Victoria on Thursday with a trough of low pressure extending from New South Wales to northern Victoria. The trough will remain slow moving over eastern Victoria on Friday and Saturday with a high pressure ridge extending across Tasmania. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers and thunderstorms over most districts, tending scattered about the central and eastern ranges in the afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms clearing from western districts during the afternoon. Warm to hot in the north and east with northerly winds, but milder southerly winds gradually extending throughout the south and west.Fire Danger - Very high in the north and west.Thursday 19 JanuaryFine apart from isolated showers and thunderstorms about the eastern ranges. Mild to warm in the south and warm to hot over the north with generally light to moderate southerly winds.Friday 20 JanuaryFine apart from isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly about the east.
