Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 17/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system lies near New Zealand and a low pressure trough is located over southwestern Victoria. The trough will weaken overnight over central Victoria but a stronger cold front will enter southwestern Victoria early Wednesday, moving to central districts around the middle of the day and moving through the east at night. A slow moving ridge of high pressure will form to the south of Victoria on Thursday with a trough of low pressure extending from New South Wales to northern Victoria. The trough will remain slow moving over eastern Victoria on Friday and Saturday with a high pressure ridge extending across Tasmania.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayCloud increasing in the west with isolated showers possible. Northerly winds, ahead of a cooler south to southwesterly change over the southwest in the evening, moving to central districts at night then weakening.Wednesday 18 JanuaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms over most districts, although showers mostly clearing from the west during the afternoon. Warm to hot in the north and east with northerly winds, but milder southerly winds gradually extending throughout.Fire Danger -  Very high in the north and west.Thursday 19 JanuaryFine apart from isolated showers and thunderstorms about the eastern ranges. Mild to warm in the south and warm to hot over the north with generally light to moderate southerly winds.Friday 20 JanuaryFine apart from isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly about the east. Mild to warm in the south and warm to hot over the north with generally light to moderate southeast to easterly winds.Saturday 21 JanuaryMorning drizzle patches near the coast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the east.
