Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 16/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Severe Weather Warning is current for parts of the Wide Bay
and Southeast Coast districts for Today.
A Gale and Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between St. Lawrence to
Point Danger, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A low pressure system was located off the coast to the east of about
Gladstone and is expected to move to the south south-east during the day and be
off the far southern coast by tonight. A slow moving upper level trough
extended from the north west to the south-east inland.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Showers and rain areas with some moderate to heavy falls and gusty S to SE
winds along the coast south of about Seventeen Seventy contracting southwards.
Showers and storms over remaining northern and eastern areas of the state. Fine
elsewhere. Light to moderate SE winds over the southern inland districts
shifting E to NE over the tropics.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough will slip to the east south-east but maintain instability
over northern and eastern Queensland. So further showers and storms will occur
over most northern and eastern districts of the state. Fine conditions will
continue elsewhere. Light to moderate SW to SE winds will occur over the
south-east corner. Generally light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper trough will move off the coast as a stable middle level ridge
persists over the west of the state. So further showers and thunderstorms will
occur about the northern and eastern tropics and along the southern coast and
the south-east border ranges. Fine conditions will continue elsewhere.
Forecast for Friday
Middle level ridging will occur over most northern and western areas of the
state and will maintain fine conditions in most of these areas. However showers
and storms will continue over the far northern and eastern tropics and across
southern coastal districts.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Low level moisture will again become established across most of the state so
showers and storms will occur across much of the inland of the state. This
activity will become more scattered and enhanced from Monday onwards as a new
upper trough system moves into the state. In fact some rain areas will develop
as the cloud band generated by the trough moves across the south-west of the
state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
