MELBOURNE - Jan 13/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough extends from the central coast to the central interior, and north towards the Gulf Country, moving slowly westwards during Saturday. A high over the Great Australian Bight extends a firm ridge along the southern coast. Forecast for the rest of Friday Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the tropics, more widespread and tending to periods of thundery rain about the Central Coast and parts of the central interior. Some moderate to heavy falls are expected about the Central Coast district. Fine over the southern districts except for some isolated light showers about the southeast coast and nearby inland areas. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds about the southern and central coasts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Saturday Isolated showers and thunderstorms for most eastern and northern areas of the state, more widespread and tending to periods of thundery rain about the Central Coast, Central Highlands and Coalfields, and Central West with some moderate to heavy falls. Fine in the southwest. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds about the southern and central coasts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Sunday The upper trough will move towards the east resulting in the cloud and rain band clearing the south-east coast during the morning. However, isolated showers will persist over the southeast districts, especially about the coast. Showers and thunderstorms will continue over most of the tropics and near the inland trough over the central and southern interior. The SE wind change may move onto the Herbert and Burdekin coast, causing showers and storms to spread to rain areas through the southern tropics. Mostly fine over the west of the state, with some isolated afternoon showers. Daytime temperatures below, or well below average over much of the state except the northwest and the far north. Forecast for Monday The upper trough is expected to drift a little westwards into the southeast interior, and may produce some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the region and extending into the Maranoa and Warrego district. An onshore wind flow should produce some isolated showers about the eastern districts, more widespread and tending to rain at times about the tropical and central coasts. Mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Peninsula district and the Gulf Country. Fine in the west. Daytime temperatures below, or well below average over much of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The upper trough is expected to remain slow moving over eastern districts, with isolated showers and thunderstorms over the region and extending into the Maranoa and Warrego district. An onshore wind flow should produce some isolated showers about the eastern districts, more widespread and tending to rain at times about the tropical and central coasts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Peninsula district and the Gulf Country, extending into the southern tropical interior. Fine in the west. Daytime temperatures below, or well below average over much of the state. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday A ridge should remain along most of the east coast, and should continue to push isolated showers onto the central and southeast districts, and more widespread showers and areas of rain onto the north east coast. Scattered showers and storms are expected about the Gulf Country and Peninsula districts, and extending to parts of the eastern interior. Fine in the west. Daytime temperatures should remain near or below average over most of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
