Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 10/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Wide Bay and
Burnett and Southeast Coast districts for Wednesday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak surface trough lies from the northwest to the southeast of the state.
A high south of Western Australia is extending a ridge of high pressure over
southwest Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Mainly isolated showers and gusty thunderstorms in a band from the Gulf
Country to the Wide Bay and Burnett district, and over the Peninsula district
and the remainder of the northern interior. Fine over the southern and central
interior. Very warm to hot about the eastern and northern districts. Light to
moderate NW to NE winds over the northern and eastern districts, and light to
moderate S to SW winds over the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough should extend from the Gulf Country to the state's
southeast, whilst the high is expected to settle over the Great Australian Bight
and maintain a ridge over southwest Queensland. Mainly isolated showers and
thunderstorms are again expected near and to the north of the trough, except
about the northeast coast where conditions should remain fine. Fine over the
southern districts and the central interior. Hot over the northern and eastern
districts. Mainly moderate SE to SW winds over the southern districts and the
central interior. Light to moderate NW to NE winds elsewhere. A high to very
high fire danger over the southeast districts with very high to severe fire
dangers in the Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast districts.
Forecast for Thursday
The high should remain over the Great Australian Bight, and is expected to
push significantly cooler SE winds over the state's southeast during the day.
The high should also push the surface trough northwards, with the trough
expected to extend from the Gulf Country to the Capricornia district by the end
of the day. Showers and thunderstorms near and to the north of the trough, and
fine over the remainder of the state. Remaining hot near and north of the
trough.
Forecast for Friday
A ridge of high pressure over southern Australia will push cooler southerly
winds further north along Queensland's east coast, with below average daytime
temperatures expected south of about Bowen, and also over the southern interior.
Mainly fine in the southeast of the state with just some isolated showers in
the onshore wind flow. The surface trough should produce showers and
thunderstorms from the central interior to the Gulf Country, and also over the
northeast tropics and central coast regions. Fine over the southern interior
and west of the state.
Forecast for Saturday
A ridge of high pressure should remain over southern Australia, and should
continue to push E to SE winds towards Queensland, maintaining below average
daytime temperatures over the southern, southeast and central coast districts.
The humidity should increase over Queensland's interior, and this increased
moisture, along with an upper level trough, may lead to an increase in showers
and storms over the state's southern and central interior. Fine and drier in the
far west, and mainly isolated showers and storms elsewhere, though more
widespread about the central coast.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The upper level trough may remain over Queensland's south east interior
during the outlook period, maintaining the showers and storms over the southeast
quarter of the state. More isolated showers and storms are expected over the
remaining eastern districts and over the far northern parts of the state.
Mainly fine over the remaining western districts.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
