MELBOURNE - Jan 10/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong cold front is moving rapidly eastwards across the State this morning. A high pressure system will move south of the Bight later today, but will weaken on Thursday. A weak cold front will cross Tasmania later on Friday and then the high will move slowly eastwards reaching the Tasman Sea on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers, mainly over southern and mountain districts becoming isolated from the west this afternoon. Local hail in the south and isolated thunderstorms near the coast contracting eastwards. Possible snowfalls on the Alpine peaks. Cool to cold with fresh to strong and squally southwesterly winds, reaching gale force along the coast and about the higher ranges.Fire Danger - Generally High to Very High.Thursday 12 JanuaryIsolated showers in southern and mountain districts, contracting eastwards. Possible early snow about the Alpine peaks. Moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds, strong at first in the east.Friday 13 JanuaryIsolated showers near the coast and over Gippsland clearing. Fine elsewhere. A mild day with generally light to moderate south to southwesterly winds.Saturday 14 JanuaryIsolated showers in the south and far east contracting to the east during the afternoon. Mild and partly cloudy in the south. Warm and mainly sunny in the north.
