MELBOURNE - Jan 10/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure lies across central and northern New South Wales. A low is developing over Bass Strait this morning in response to an approaching upper-level feature. An associated cold front will move across the southeast of the state this afternoon as the low moves to the southern Tasman Sea. Cooler conditions will remain on Thursday as the low moves towards New Zealand and a high pressure ridge strengthens from the west. An inland trough should extend into the north of the state from Queensland on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers about the Snowy Mountains and far south coast, with possible snow on higher parts of the Alps. Possible thunderstorms on the far south coast. Isolated showers over the remainder of the southeast, possibly extending to central parts of the coast in the evening. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate to fresh west to to southwest winds, turning colder, strong and gusty southerly in the southeast.Fire Danger - Very High: Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Hunter, Illawarra, Riverina, Northern Tablelands.Thursday 12 JanuaryThe chance of isolated showers in the far southeast, otherwise fine and mostly sunny. South to southwest winds, fresh to strong along the coast at first.Friday 13 JanuaryThe chance of showers on the north coast, otherwise fine. Southeast to southwest winds.Saturday 14 JanuaryIsolated showers about the coast and ranges, extending to parts of the northern inland in the afternoon with the chance of thunderstorms. Fine across the central west and southwest.
