Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 10/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong cold front will approach southwest Victoria tonight. This front will move rapidly across the State early Wednesday. A high pressure system will move south of the Bight on Wednesday, but will weaken on Thursday. A weak cold front will cross Tasmania later on Friday and then the high will move slowly eastwards reaching the Tasman Sea on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers, mainly over southern and mountain districts, scattered near the coast. Moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, locally strong near the coast.Wednesday 11 JanuaryScattered showers, mainly over southern and mountain districts. Local hail in the south. Isolated thunderstorms possible near the coast. Possible snow about the alpine peaks. Cool to cold with fresh to strong and squally southwesterly winds, reaching gale force in West and South Gippsland.Fire Danger -  High to Very High in the north. Moderate to High in the south.Thursday 12 JanuaryIsolated showers in southern and mountain districts, contracting eastwards. Possible early snow about the Alpine peaks. Moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds, strong at first in the east.Friday 13 JanuaryIsolated showers near the coast and over Gippsland clearing. Fine elsewhere. A mild day with generally light to moderate south to southwesterly winds.Saturday 14 JanuaryIsolated showers in the south and far east contracting to the east during the afternoon. Mild and partly cloudy in the south. Warm and mainly sunny in the north. Moderate to fresh southerly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Wednesday.Product IDV10310
