MELBOURNE - Jan 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high in the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A surface trough over the interior is moving slowly east win will lie from northwest to the far southeast of the state tonight. Forecast for the rest of Monday Showers and isolated thunderstorms in a band from the north and northwest to the southeast of the state. Fine over the central and northern east coast. Fine over the far southwest and southern interior with moderate SW to SE winds developing. Hot to very hot about southeastern districts. Light to moderate NE to NW winds about the eastern parts of the state, fresh near the coast in the south. Forecast for Tuesday The surface trough is likely to have stalled and should remain lying from the northwest of the state to the Darling Downs district. A weak southerly change is expected to move through far southern waters with isolated early showers about the far southeast coast. Showers and isolated thunderstorms should lie in a broad band from the Gulf region, through the Central West and into the Wide Bay and Capricornia Coast districts. Fine in the southwest and southern interior with cooler temperatures. Very warm to hot about the remainder of the state. Forecast for Wednesday The surface trough moves a little further northeast with the showers and isolated thunderstorms likely to lie in a band from the northwest of the state to the Wide Bay and Burnett district. Fine conditions are expected about the western areas, the southern interior and the Southeast District. Very warm conditions will persist to the north and east of the trough with hot conditions likely to return to the southeast of the state. Forecast for Thursday The surface trough continues to track northwards with showers and thunderstorms becoming confined north of line from about Mt Isa to Gladstone. Fine conditions across the southern half of the state with cooler SW to SE winds as a ridge builds in behind the trough. Temperatures will remain above average to the north of the trough but will be significantly cooler over the southern half of the state. A moderate to fresh S to SE change will move north over southern waters. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday Showers and thunderstorms are expected to remain about the northern half and central interior of the state into the weekend. Isolated showers developing through southeastern districts on Friday, and extending to the southern interior and southwest over the weekend, with some possible thunderstorms.
