MELBOURNE - Jan 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A deep low pressure system southwest of Tasmania will move away to the southeast today. A high pressure ridge will extend across northern Victoria today and Tuesday. A cold front will move across southern Victoria tonight and early Tuesday. A stronger cold front will move across the state on Wednesday. A high pressure system will move south of the Bight on Wednesday, but will weaken on Thursday as another front approaches Tasmania. Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers over the south, mainly near the coast. Showers clearing from east Gippsland by the afternoon. A generally mild and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong at times near the coast.Fire Danger - Very high in the Wimmera, high elsewhere.Tuesday 10 JanuaryIsolated showers mainly over southern and mountain districts, scattered near the coast. Dry in the north. Cool to mild and partly cloudy in the south. Mild and mainly sunny in the north. Moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Wednesday 11 JanuaryFine in the northwest. Scattered showers over southern and mountain districts and snow possible about the alpine peaks. The chance of morning hail and thunderstorms in the southeast. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong near the coast.Thursday 12 JanuaryIsolated showers in southern and mountain districts, contracting eastwards. Possible early snow about the Alpine peaks.
