Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high in the southern Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along the east coast
of Queensland. A surface trough in the far southwest of the state will move
further north and east to lie from the northwest to the far southeast of the
state by late on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers and gusty thunderstorms in a band from the western tropics
through the central interior to the southern and southeast interior. Isolated
showers and possible thunderstorms in the southwest of the state. Fine over the
remainder of eastern Queensland. Light to moderate SE to NE winds across the
tropics and about the east coast. Moderate NE to NW winds over most of the
interior with moderate SW winds over the southwest.
Forecast for Monday
Early patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms in the southwest and southern
interior will clear during the morning. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will
persist in a band from the north and northwest of the state to the southeast of
the state. Becoming fine over the far southwest and southern interior as
moderate S to SW winds develop. Fine over the central and northern east coast.
Maximum temperatures will remain above average about most of the state with hot
conditions about southeastern districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The surface trough is likely to have stalled and should remain lying from the
northwest of the state to the Darling Downs district. A weak southerly change is
likely to move through far southern waters with isolated early showers about the
far southeast coast. Showers and isolated thunderstorms should lie in a broad
band from the Gulf region, through the Central West and into the Wide Bay and
Capricornia Coast districts. Fine in the southwest and southern interior with
cooler temperatures. Very warm to hot about the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough moves a little further northeast with the showers and
isolated thunderstorms likely to lie in a band from the northwest of the state
to the Wide Bay and Burnett district. Fine conditions are expected about the
west of the state, the southern interior and the Southeast District. Very warm
conditions will persist to the north and east of the trough with hot conditions
likely to return to the southeast of the state.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough continues to track northwards with showers and
thunderstorms becoming confined north of line from about Mt Isa to Gladstone.
Fine conditions are expected across the southern half of the state with cooler
SW to SE winds as a ridge builds in behind the trough. Temperatures will remain
above average to the north of the trough but will be significantly cooler over
the southern half of the state. A moderate to fresh S to SE change will move
north over southern waters.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Showers and thunderstorms should remain confined to the northern half of the
state on Friday with isolated showers about the southeast coast in the SE'ly
winds. The surface trough is likely to pushed back westwards during the weekend
with an upper trough providing greater atmospheric instability. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms will continue about northern and central areas and are
also likely to spread to most eastern areas. The southern interior and southwest
is likely to see only isolated activity.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
