Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A trough will move through eastern districts this evening. The trough is associated with a deep low pressure system that will move to the southwest of Tasmania tonight. A high pressure ridge will extend across northern Victoria on Monday and Tuesday. A strong cold front will move across southern Victoria on Wednesday. The next high pressure system will move into the Bight on Wednesday, but will retrogress westwards to allow another front to approach Tasmania on Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of SundayRain areas and isolated thunderstorms in the east, clearing during the evening. Isolated showers to follow near and south of the ranges. Westerly winds extending throughout by evening, and becoming strong near the coast.Monday 9 JanuaryIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, mainly near the coast. Showers clearing from east Gippsland by the afternoon. Generally mild. Partly cloudy in the south and mainly sunny in the north. Moderate westerly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Fire Danger -  Very high in the Wimmera, high elsewhere.Tuesday 10 JanuaryIsolated showers mainly over southern and mountain districts, scattered near the coast. Dry in the north. Cool to mild and partly cloudy in the south. Mild and mainly sunny in the north. Moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Wednesday 11 JanuaryFine in the northwest. Scattered showers over southern and mountain districts and possible snow about the alpine peaks. The chance of morning hail and thunderstorms in the southeast. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong near the coast.Thursday 12 JanuaryIsolated showers in southern and mountain districts, contracting eastwards. Possible early snow about the Alpine peaks. Moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds, strong at first in the east.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Monday.Product IDV10310
