Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A trough over western Victoria will move through central districts this morning and eastern districts this afternoon. The trough is associated with a deep low pressure system that will move to the southwest of Tasmania today. A ridge will extend across northern Victoria on Monday and Tuesday with cold fronts moving through Bass Strait. The next high pressure system will move into the Bight on Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of SundayRain areas and isolated thunderstorms contracting to the east during the afternoon and clearing during the evening. Isolated showers to follow near and south of the ranges. Generally mild. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds reaching gale force over the Alps. Winds shifting westerly over the west, extending throughout by evening and becoming strong near the coast.Fire Danger -  High to very high in the west and north, low to moderate over the east.Monday 9 JanuaryIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, mainly near the coast. Showers clearing from east Gippsland by the afternoon. Generally mild. Partly cloudy in the south and mainly sunny in the north. Moderate westerly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Tuesday 10 JanuaryIsolated showers mainly over southern and mountain districts, scattered near the coast. Dry in the north. Cool to mild and partly cloudy in the south. Mild and mainly sunny in the north. Moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Wednesday 11 JanuaryFine in the northwest. Scattered showers over southern and mountain districts. The chance of morning hail and thunderstorms in the southeast.
