Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high in the southern Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east
coast of Queensland. A surface trough in the far southwest of the state will
move further northeast to lie from the northwest to the southern interior by
late Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the central and eastern interior and
about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Isolated light showers along the southeast
coast. Fine elsewhere. Remaining very warm to hot over the interior of the
state.
Forecast for Sunday
Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms developing about the southwest of the
state and extending to the southern interior. Isolated afternoon showers and
thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and about parts of the
interior of the state. Fine about the east coast and adjacent inland. Remaining
hot over much of the interior with maxima above 40 degrees Celsius. Maximum
temperatures will also gradually rise about the east coast. Light to moderate NE
to NW winds about most of the state but a S to SW change will extend to the
southwest of the state bringing slightly cooler conditions to the far southwest.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough will move north and east and reach the northwest, central
interior and the Darling Downs by late in the day. Early patchy rain in the
southwest will ease during the morning. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will
persist in a band from the northwest to the southeast of the state. Becoming
fine over the far southwest and southern interior as moderate S to SW winds
develop. Maximum temperatures will remain above average about most  of the state
with hot conditions about the southeastern districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The surface trough is likely to have stalled and should remain lying from the
northwest of the state to the Darling Downs district. A weak southerly change is
likely to move through far southern waters. Showers and isolated thunderstorms
should lie in a broad band from the Gulf region to the eastern interior and
southeast region. Fine in the southwest and southern interior with cooler
temperatures. A little cooler also on the southeast coast with a brief spell of
southeasterly winds.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough moves a little further northeast with the showers and
isolated thunderstorms likely to lie in a band from the northwest of the state
to the Wide Bay and Burnett district. Fine conditions are expected about the
west of the state, the southern interior and the southeast.  Very warm
conditions will persist to the north and east of the trough with very hot
conditions likely to return to the southeast of the state.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Showers and thunderstorms should remain confined to the central coast and
northern parts of the state on Thursday and Friday. By Saturday the surface
trough is likely to start being pushed back westwards into the interior of the
state. Low level moisture will increase over eastern areas with showers and
thunderstorms developing over most of the state.

Sunday.
