MELBOURNE - Jan 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure is moving across the State as a deep low moves over waters well to the south. Another front will move over the southeast during Tuesday and Wednesday on the eastern flank of a high. This slow-moving high is expected to be located south of Western Australia by late Wednesday, then continuing eastwards towards the Bight later in the week. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayPatchy rain and isolated thunderstorms extending throughout this evening, increasing to areas of rain southwest of about Coober Pedy to Renmark. Thunderstorms becoming scattered over western districts with possible heavy rainfall, gusty winds and hail. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds ahead of a milder southwesterly change moving across central and eastern parts of the State late this afternoon and this evening.Sunday 8 JanuaryAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms at first south of about Leigh Creek, and patchy rain with isolated thunderstorms elsewhere, all contracting northwards to the pastoral districts by late morning then to the northern border during the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers to follow over the agricultural area. Cool to mild with fresh west to southwesterly winds extending throughout, strong about southern coasts.Monday 9 JanuaryIsolated showers about the southern agricultural area contracting to southern coasts in the evening. Patchy rain in the far northwest. Cool to mild in the south grading to warm in the north. Mainly moderate southwest to southeast winds.Tuesday 10 January Isolated showers about the southern agricultural area increasing to scattered showers about the southeast coast later. Patchy rain in the far northwest. Cool to mild in the south grading to warm in the north. Moderate southwest to southeast winds, becoming fresh to strong about southern coasts. Wednesday 11 January Isolated showers about the agricultural area, increasing to scattered showers about southern coastal areas. Patchy rain in the far northwest. Mostly mild with moderate southwest to southeast winds. Cumulative rainfall totals from Saturday afternoon through to midnight Wednesday are expected to be up to 5 mm, increasing to 5 to 15 mm over northwestern and southeastern parts of the State. Local falls of 15 to 40 mm are possible with thunderstorms. Thursday until SaturdayIsolated showers about the southern agricultural area clearing early in the period. Possible isolated showers in the west and northwest. Mild to warm in the south grading to warm to hot in the north.
