Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 6/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high in the southern Tasman Sea is extending a ridge along the east coast.
A weak surface trough occurs over the interior of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing in the afternoon about the
eastern interior, and through the southern Gulf. Isolated light showers along
the southeast coast. Very hot over the interior with maxima exceeding 40C
through western districts and exceeding 45C in parts of the Channel Country.
Forecast for Sunday
A new surface trough enters the southwest of the state with cooler southerly
winds. Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms developing after the change over
western districts. Remaining hot over the central interior with northerly winds
and maxima near 40C. Maximum temperatures also gradually rising towards the east
coast with fine conditions. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf
coast. Isolated showers may develop near the change over the southern interior
in the afternoon.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough will move east and reach the northwest, central interior
and the Darling Downs before slowing. Patchy rain will ease during the morning
about the southwest, but showers and thunderstorms remaining in a band east of
the trough from the northwest of the state to the southeast in the afternoon.
Dry over western and southern Queensland. Stronger westerly winds developing
over the southeast region with create maxima over 34C in many locations. Late in
the day a coastal trough from northern NSW will move through the southeast coast
with cooler southeast winds.
Forecast for Tuesday
Inland surface trough now stalled across the interior from the northwest to
the Darling Downs district. Again showers and thunderstorms in a broad band from
the Gulf region to the eastern interior and southeast region. Fine in the west
with cooler temperatures through the southwest. A little cooler on the southeast
coast with southeast winds.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The inland trough over the Darling Downs in pushed east on Wednesday with
southwest winds and high temperatures again for the southeast region. Showers
and thunderstorms generally contracting north from the Wide Bay area to the
southern tropics. Isolated afternoon showers returning to parts of the eastern
interior by Friday.

Saturday.
