Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 6/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
An old ridge of high pressure along Queensland coast is weakening. A high is
entering the southern Tasman Sea with a new ridge forming on the southern N.S.W
coast. A weak trough occurs over the interior of Queensland. Monsoon trough well
north of the state in the northern tropics.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southeast interior this afternoon
and evening. Dry over the remainder of the state apart from some isolated late
thunderstorms about the Gulf coast and the west coast of Cape York Peninsula.
Hot conditions over the interior with light to moderate NE to SE winds. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds about the tropics. Light winds about the east coast.
Forecast for Saturday
Remaining fine over most of the state apart from isolated showers and
thunderstorms developing in the afternoon of the eastern interior. Very isolated
late showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf coast. Possible isolated early
light showers about the southeast coast.  Remaining very hot over the interior
with maxima exceeding 40C through western districts and temperatures reaching
45C in the Channel Country. A moderate to high fire danger over eastern
Queensland.
Forecast for Sunday
Becoming fine over eastern districts but a new surface trough enters the
southwest of the state with cooler southerly winds. Patchy rain and isolated
thunderstorms developing after the change over western districts. Remaining hot
over the central interior with northerly winds and maxima near 40C. Maximum
temperatures also gradually rising towards the east coast. Isolated showers may
develop near the change over the southern interior in the afternoon. No change
in the weather over the tropics.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough will move east and reach the northwest, central interior
and the Darling Downs before slowing down. Patchy rain has dissolved but showers
and thunderstorms remaining in a band east of the trough from the northwest of
the state to the southeast in the afternoon. Dry over western and southern
Queensland. Stronger westerly winds developing over the southeast region with
create maxima over 34C in many locations. Eventually the coastal trough from
northern N.S.W will move through the southeast coast overnight with cooler
southeast winds.
Forecast for Tuesday
Inland surface trough now stalled across the interior from the northwest to
the Darling Downs district. Again showers and thunderstorms in a broad band from
the Gulf region to the eastern interior as far south as the northern Darling
Downs district. Fine in the west. A little cooler on the southeast coast with
southeast winds.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The inland trough over the Darling Downs in pushed east on Wednesday with
southwest winds and high temperatures again for the southeast region. Showers
and thunderstorms continuing in a band across the state on Wednesday from the
northwest to the Wide Bay region. By Thursday a stronger southeasterly wind
change moves in on the southeast coast and this will eventually move north and
contract thunderstorms further north into the southern tropics. The contraction
of the thunderstorm activity will continue for Friday.

Saturday.
