Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 6/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over Bass Strait extends a ridge along the New South Wales coast in the wake of a trough. On Saturday the high is expected to be over the Tasman Sea, directing a warm to hot northerly airstream across much of the state while the next trough approaches from the west. This trough, and an associated cold front, are forecast to move across southern and central parts of New South Wales during Sunday bringing unsettled conditions, continuing to the northeast on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of FridayScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the northeast, easing through the evening. Fine elsewhere. South to southeasterly winds.Saturday 7 JanuaryPossible early showers on the far north coast and adjacent ranges, and along the southern border later in the day. Hot day in the west. Southeasterly winds about the northern coast. Northwest to northeast winds elsewhere, freshening in the south.Fire Danger -  Very High in the Riverina.Sunday 8 JanuaryFine in the northeast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms across the southern inland, scattered near the Victorian border at first, possibly extending to remaining districts during the afternoon. Very warm to hot northwest winds before a cooler southwesterly change in the west and south.Monday 9 JanuaryIsolated showers in the east, contracting to the north coast and ranges. The chance of afternoon thunderstorms on the northern ranges. Fine remainder. Cooler south to southwest change extending throughout.Tuesday 10 JanuaryThe chance of showers near the coast, mainly in the north. Fine elsewhere. Southwest to southeast winds, turning northeasterly along much of the coast in the afternoon.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Saturday.Product IDN10031
