MELBOURNE - Jan 5/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough lies over northeastern parts of the state today and a high south of the Bight extends a ridge over southern NSW. A stronger trough will affect the coast and ranges on Friday before the high moves into the Tasman Sea later Friday and Saturday with a ridge extending to the north coast. Another frontal system is expected to cross the state Sunday and Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers and thunderstorms about the northern and central ranges and western slopes. Isolated thunderstorms in the northwest. Isolated showers along the coast and about the southern ranges. Fine and clear in the southwest. Chiefly southwest to southeast winds in the south and west, northeast winds remainder.Friday 6 JanuaryScattered showers and thunderstorms in the northeast. Isolated showers on the southern coast and ranges, clearing during the morning. Fine and mostly sunny remainder. South to southeasterly winds, fresh to strong along the coast.Saturday 7 JanuaryIsolated showers on the far north coast and adjacent ranges, and along the southern border later. Hot day in the west. Northwest to northeast winds, freshening in the south.Sunday 8 JanuaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms developing through most districts, more widespread over the southern inland. Very warm to hot northwest winds before a cooler southwesterly change in the west and south.Monday 9 JanuaryIsolated showers in the east, contracting to the north coast and ranges. Fine remainder.
