MELBOURNE - Jan 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge of high pressure along the east coast of Queensland. A mid level ridge lies over the interior, though a weak mid level trough is expected to pass through the southern parts of the state on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers about the northeast coast, and through the Gulf Country with possible thunderstorms. Isolated thunderstorms possible in the far southwest. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds. Forecast for Thursday Isolated showers about the northern coasts, with possible thunderstorms over the Gulf Country. Isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms about the southern interior and towards the southern border ranges. Fine elsewhere. Hot over the interior, especially in the southwest. Light to moderate SE to NE winds. Forecast for Friday Fine for most of the state under stable conditions. Possible isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf Country. Some lingering instability could again produce some isolated showers and storms about the southeast, again most likely near the southern border ranges. Remaining very warm to hot across the state. Forecast for Saturday Fine for most of the state, with only some isolated showers about the northeast coast and possible thunderstorms near the Gulf. Warm to hot temperatures for the interior. Forecast for Sunday Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorm areas entering the southwest of the state, slowly spreading east during the day and reaching the Northwest, Central West and Darling Downs districts late. Isolated showers about the northern coasts, with possible thunderstorms about the Gulf. Warm to hot temperatures for the interior of the state. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday A surface trough is expected to extend from the northwest to southeast of the state, with isolated showers and thunderstorms to the northeast of this trough for the outlook period. Fine in the southwest. Very warm to hot for most of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
