MELBOURNE - Jan 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high in the Bight extends a ridge across Victoria. A weak cold over the southern ocean will clip the coast on Thursday night. The high pressure system will move across Bass Strait on Friday reaching the Tasman Sea at night. A low pressure trough will enter western Victoria late on Saturday as a low develops south of the Bight. The trough will then move across eastern Victoria on Sunday as the low to the south deepens. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers about the east Gippsland ranges clearing this evening. Mostly clear elsewhere. Mainly moderate southerly winds, fresh near the coast.Thursday 5 JanuaryA dry, warm and mostly sunny day in the north. Cool and partly cloudy in the south with isolated showers developing about the far eastern ranges during the afternoon and near the coast during the evening. Light to moderate south to southwesterly winds, freshening near the coast with afternoon seabreezes.Fire Danger - High in the north and west.Friday 6 JanuaryIsolated morning drizzle near the coast and over east Gippsland clearing by the afternoon. Otherwise a dry and mostly sunny day. Mild in the south and warmer in the north with light southwest to southeasterly winds becoming variable over the north during the afternoon. Coastal seabreezes in the afternoon extending inland in the south during the day.Saturday 7 JanuaryPatchy rain and possible thunderstorms extending from the west during the morning. A warm but generally cloudy day with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds although milder afternoon seabreezes along the Gippsland coast.Sunday 8 JanuaryRain areas in the east with isolated afternoon thunderstorms about the northeast, contracting eastwards and clearing by the evening. Isolated showers elsewhere, contracting to the coast during the afternoon.
