Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for Diamantina and Paroo Rivers.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge of high pressure along the east
coast of Queensland, while a mid level ridge lies over the interior.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine over most of the state except for some isolated light showers about the
central and northeast coast, and a few isolated showers and storms about the
Gulf of Carpentaria coast and nearby inland areas. Remaining hot in the west,
and getting warmer about the southeast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds.
Forecast for Thursday
The mid level ridge should remain over the interior, keeping most of
Queensland fine, except for some isolated light showers about the northeast
coast and isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and
nearby inland areas. A weak upper level trough may also generate some isolated
showers and storms over the southeast, mainly near the inland southern border
ranges. Remaining hot over the interior, and temperatures rising over the
eastern districts.
Forecast for Friday
Fine throughout the state except for the chance of some isolated storms about
the Gulf Country, and some lingering instability could again produce some
isolated showers and storms about the southeast, again most likely near the
southern border ranges. Remaining very warm to hot across the state.
Forecast for Saturday
Fine and very warm to hot again across most of the state, except for a few
isolated light showers about the far northeast coast, and the chance of some
isolated storms about the Gulf Country.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The upper level ridge should keep the majority of the state fine, while a
weak ridge along the east coast will maintain a light, hot northerly air flow
over the state, with temperatures at least 5 degrees above average over the
interior during the weekend. An upper level trough could produce at least some
isolated showers and storms about the southern interior from around Sunday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
