MELBOURNE - Jan 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is moving towards New Zealand. A cold front will extend from the west of the State and quickly cross Victoria this morning. A high in the Bight will extend a ridge across Victoria on Thursday. Another cold front will clip the coast late Thursday and Friday morning then a trough of low pressure will likely enter western Bass Strait on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered showers on and south of the ranges, more isolated in the north and clearing from the west during the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms contracting to the northeast ranges in the afternoon. Cooler, fresh southwesterly winds extending throughout in the morning and becoming strong near the coast.Fire Danger - Very high in the northwest, generally high elsewhere.Thursday 5 JanuaryA dry, warm and mostly sunny day in the north. Cool and partly cloudy in the south with isolated showers developing near the coast in the late afternoon. Light to moderate south to southwesterly winds.Friday 6 JanuaryIsolated morning showers near the coast and over east Gippsland during the morning. Otherwise a dry and mostly sunny day. Mild in the south and warmer in the north with light southwest to southeasterly winds becoming variable over the north during the afternoon. Coastal seabreezes in the afternoon extending inland in the south during the day.Saturday 7 JanuaryPatchy rain extending from the west during the morning.
