MELBOURNE - Jan 2/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak high over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge of high pressure along the entire east coast of Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Fine over most of the state except for a few isolated, mainly light showers about the central and northeast coast, and some isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and the far west of the state. Remaining hot in the west. LIght to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times near the southern ranges and about the east coast. Forecast for Wednesday A weak ridge should remain along the east coast, maintaining fine conditions across the state except for some isolated showers about the central and northeast coast, and isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and nearby inland areas. Remaining hot in the west, and getting warmer about the southeast. Forecast for Thursday A mid level ridge over the interior should keep most of Queensland fine, with just isolated showers about the northeast coast and isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and nearby inland areas. A weak upper level trough may produce some isolated showers and storms over the southeast, mainly near the inland southern border ranges. Remaining hot over the interior, and temperatures rising over the eastern districts. Forecast for Friday The weak upper level trough should remain near the southeast, again making shower and storms possible, though the activity should be mainly near the southern border ranges. Remaining fine and hot over the interior. Fine also over much of the remainder of the east coast, with just isolated showers over the far northeast coast. Isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and nearby inland areas. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday An upper level ridge should keep the majority of the state fine. A weak ridge along the east coast will maintain a light, hot northerly air flow over the state, with temperatures at least 5 degrees above average over the interior. An upper level trough could produce isolated showers and storms about the southern interior early in the new week. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Tuesday.
