MELBOURNE - Jan 2/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front will move northeastwards over the State today, reaching a line Ernabella to Renmark late this evening before weakening into a trough and reaching Moomba late Wednesday. A high developing south of the Bight will move eastwards to be located over the Tasman Sea by the weekend. Another cold front is expected to move over South Australia at the weekend. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated thundery showers except over the far northeast, tending to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the south of the Pastoral districts, the Flinders and the northeast of the agricultural area during the afternoon and early evening. Hot to very hot with light to moderate northerly winds, ahead of a cooler, fresh to strong southwest to southerly change reaching a line Ernabella to Renmark late evening. Areas of raised dust inland with the change.Wednesday 4 JanuaryIsolated thundery showers over the Pastoral and Flinders district, contracting northwards to the far north late evening. Isolated morning showers over the agricultural area and west coast, scattered early over the Lower South East. Mild near southern coasts, grading to hot to very hot in the far north. Fresh to strong southwest to southeast winds, easing later.Thursday 5 JanuaryPossible isolated thundery showers northwest of about Coober Pedy. Isolated clearing showers northeast of Marree. Fine elsewhere. Mild to warm over the agricultural area, grading to very hot in the far north. Mainly moderate southwest to southeast winds, fresh at times near coasts and in the far north.Friday 6 January Isolated thundery showers northwest of about Tarcoola, with isolated showers elsewhere west of Port Lincoln. Ceduna to Coober Pedy, gradually extending over the remainder during the weekend. Warm to hot with light to moderate northeast to northwest winds and coastal sea breezes. Cumulative rainfall totals from Tuesday morning through to midnight Friday are expected to be less than 2 mm, with isolated falls of 2 to 5 mm with thunderstorms. Saturday until MondayHot with isolated thundery showers, contracting northeastwards and clearing with a southwesterly change.
