Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 1/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system to the east of Tasmania extends a ridge along the New South Wales coast. This high is very slow moving and will remain the dominant synoptic feature for the next few days, with daytime temperatures gradually increasing across the state as winds turn more northerly. A trough is forecast to bring a cooler southerly change to the region mid-week.
Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers and thunderstorms about the southern ranges early this evening otherwise mostly clear. Very warm evening in the west. Southeast to northeasterly winds, moderate to fresh along southern and central parts of the coast.Monday 2 JanuaryPossible isolated showers along the far north coast early morning and about the southern ranges in the afternoon. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Hot day west of the Divide. Light to moderate east to southeasterly winds in the northeast. Northeast winds elsewhere freshening along southern and central parts of the coast in the afternoon.Tuesday 3 JanuaryPossible isolated showers about the southern ranges and south coast in the afternoon. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Hot west of the divide, warm day coast and ranges. East to northeasterly winds, becoming fresh to strong along southern and central parts of the coast in the afternoon. Winds tending northwesterly in the west ahead of a late southwesterly change in the far southwest.Wednesday 4 JanuaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms developing about southern then central parts of the state during the day. Mostly sunny in the north. Very warm to hot day with chiefly northwest to northeast winds before a cooler, gusty southwest to southerly change moves through southern and central districts.Thursday 5 JanuaryPossible isolated showers in the east, particularly the northeast where thunder is also possible. Generally fine in the west. Hot day over the northern inland, milder southwest to southeasterly winds over the remainder.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Monday.Product IDN10031
