Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 31/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system east of Bass Strait will be reinforced by a new high centre passing south of Tasmania on Sunday. The high will then drift slowly eastwards over the Tasman Sea on Monday and Tuesday. A trough of low pressure will reach western Victoria late on Monday before weakening. A second trough will extend from the west late Tuesday to reach the east Wednesday morning pushed by a cold front crossing Tasmania.
Forecast for the rest of SundayPatchy early morning fog and low cloud near the coast, then a hot and generally sunny day throughout. Light to moderate northerly winds and milder afternoon sea breezes developing along the coast.Fire Danger -  High to Very High.Monday 2 JanuaryDry, hot to very hot and mostly sunny. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds ahead of a milder southwesterly change reaching the southwest late in the afternoon then pushing to central areas at night and weakening.Tuesday 3 JanuaryWarm to hot with northwest to westerly winds ahead of a cooler southwest change in the southwest, extending eastwards overnight. Isolated showers developing near the ranges during the afternoon and becoming more widespread over western districts during the evening. The chance of of thunderstorms about the far eastern ranges.Wednesday 4 JanuaryScattered showers on and south of the ranges, more isolated in the north and clearing from the west during the afternoon. The chance of thunderstorms about the northeast ranges. Cool to mild in the south, warm in the north. Moderate southerly winds, fresh at times near the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Sunday.Product IDV10310
