Weather Situation A high pressure system forming over the Bight extends a ridge across southern Victoria. The high will move steadily eastwards crossing Bass Strait on Thursday night then becoming slow moving to the east of Bass Strait on New Years Eve. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayFine and cool to mild. Partly cloudy in the south and mostly clear in the north. Moderate southwest to southerly winds, locally fresh on the coast.Wednesday 28 DecemberIsolated morning drizzle possible near the coast. Morning cloud in the south clearing to a mild and mostly sunny afternoon. A warm and sunny day over the north. Light to moderate southerly winds and fresh afternoon coastal sea breezes.Fire Danger - Very high in the northwest and moderate to high elsewhere.Thursday 29 DecemberIsolated morning drizzle possible near the coast. Morning cloud in the south clearing to a mild and mostly sunny afternoon. A warm and sunny day over the north. Light to moderate southeast to southerly winds and fresh afternoon coastal sea breezes.Friday 30 DecemberFine apart from the chance of early drizzle in East Gippsland. A warm to very warm and sunny day in the north. Mild to warm in the south with some cloud persisting in Gippsland but clearing elsewhere.
