MELBOURNE - Dec 25/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure over eastern Victoria is contracting eastwards and will clear eastern districts by early this afternoon. A cold front over the Southern Ocean will cross Tasmania this afternoon with another clipping Tasmania on Tuesday. The next high pressure system will form south of the Bight late Tuesday, then will move slowly eastwards, passing just south of Victoria on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of MondayScattered showers and local thunderstorms over eastern districts contracting to the far east by the afternoon and clearing by this evening. Heavy rainfall and squally winds possible with thunderstorms. Isolated showers or drizzle elsewhere south of the ranges, contracting to the coast in the afternoon. Mild with moderate to locally fresh southwest to southerly winds extending throughout.Fire Danger - Very high in northwest grading to moderate to high elsewhere.Tuesday 27 DecemberIsolated light showers in southern districts, mainly morning. Cool and partly cloudy in the south, warmer and sunny in the north. Moderate southwest to southerly winds.Wednesday 28 DecemberIsolated morning showers possible near the Gippsland coast. Morning cloud in the south clearing to a mild and mostly sunny afternoon. A warm and sunny day over the north. Light to moderate southerly winds.Thursday 29 DecemberCloud clearing from the south in the morning, otherwise a generally sunny day throughout.
