Weather Situation
A low [Ex-Tropical Cyclone Fina] is located over the southern Coral Sea and
moving slowly to the southeast. A high pressure system is located near New
Zealand.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine over most of the state. Only isolated showers along the central and
southeast coast and isolated showers and storms over the far northern tropics.
Dangerous surf conditions will continue about the coast south of Sandy Cape.
Light to moderate E to SE winds about southern districts, tending fresh at times
near the coast. Light to moderate NW to NE winds over the tropics.
Forecast for Monday
Fine over most of the interior except for some isolated showers and/or storms
about the southern interior as a surface and an upper level trough moves over
the region. Fine about the southeast and central coast districts, though
dangerous surf will continue about the coast south from Fraser Island. Mainly
isolated showers and storms over the far northern tropics, more widespread over
Cape York Peninsula. Light to moderate NW to NE winds over the tropics.
Generally light to moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper level trough should produce some patchy thundery rain during the
morning about the southern interior then showers and storms over the south-east
corner during the afternoon. Showers and storms will continue over much of the
tropics. Conditions will become fine during the afternoon across much of the
southern and western interior. Winds will freshen from the S along the far
southern coast during the late afternoon and evening.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high over the Great Australian Bight will maintain fine conditions over
much of the southern interior and south-west of the state while pushing a
moderate to fresh S to SE wind change northwards along the southern coast.
Isolated showers will occur along the southern coast in the onshore stream.
Showers and storms will continue across nearly all of the tropics and the
Highlands area. This activity will become widespread with some moderate to heavy
falls about the south-east tropics and Highlands area as instability increases
over the area due to an upper trough.
Forecast for Thursday
Fine conditions will occur over much of the interior. Rain areas with some
heavy falls will develop on Cape York Peninsula as TC Grant moves eastwards
across the Gulf of Carpentaria. Over remaining east coast districts and adjacent
inland showers and/or possible local thunder will occur. The showers will be
more widespread about the Central and Capricornia coast due to greater
instability caused by the upper trough. Fine conditions will continue over most
of the inland.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Fine conditions will continue over most of the inland due to the development
of an upper ridge in the wake of the upper trough. Isolated showers will
continue along parts of the east coast due to the onshore stream. Rain areas
with some heavy falls will continue over Cape York Peninsula and then develop on
northern parts of the north tropical coast on Saturday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
