Weather Situation
A low [Ex-Tropical Cyclone Fina] is located over the southern Coral Sea and
moving slowly to the southeast. A high pressure system is located near New
Zealand.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine over most of the state except for some isolated showers about the
central and southeast coast and nearby inland areas, and some mainly isolated
showers and storms over the far northern tropics. Dangerous surf conditions
about the coast south of Sandy Cape. Light to moderate E to SE winds about
southern districts, tending fresh at times near the coast. Light to moderate NW
to NE winds over the tropics.
Forecast for Monday
Fine over most of the interior except for some isolated showers and storms
about the southern interior as a surface and upper level trough move over the
region. Fine about the southeast and central coast districts, though dangerous
surf will continue about the southeast coast. Mainly isolated showers and storms
over the far northern tropics, more widespread over Cape York Peninsula. Light
to moderate NW to NE winds over the tropics. Light to moderate SW to SE winds
about the state's southeast, tending fresh at times about the coast. Mainly
moderate NW to SW winds about the southern interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper level trough should produce some patchy thundery rain during the
morning about the southern interior, which will contract into the southeast
interior and break up to isolated showers and storms during the day. Generally
dry air will keep the central west mainly fine, though there is just the chance
of some isolated showers and storms over the region during the afternoon and
evening. The surface trough should move over the eastern and northwestern
districts during the afternoon, producing scattered showers and storms.
Scattered showers and storms also over Cape York Peninsula.
Forecast for Wednesday
A high over the Great Australian Bight will push drier air over Queensland's
southwest, resulting in fine conditions over the region. The high should also
increase the onshore flow about the southeast, producing some mainly isolated
showers. The surface trough should stretch from the Gulf Country down to Wide
Bay coast, producing scattered showers and storms along it, and also over the
remainder of the northern tropics. Monsoonal showers and rain areas may begin
over parts of Cape York Peninsula.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
A slow moving high near Tasmania should maintain mainly fine conditions over
most of the state, with just some isolated showers about much of the east coast.
However the monsoon trough is likely to be active over the state's far north,
and there is the possibility that a tropical cyclone will move across the Gulf
of Carpentaria towards Cape York Peninsula during the outlook period.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
