Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 21/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak low pressure system off the NSW south coast will drift slowly southwards before weakening east of Tasmania on Friday. Meanwhile a high pressure system south of Tasmania will drift eastwards joining with a large slow moving high over New Zealand today. A weak trough of low pressure will linger over inland Victoria on Thursday and Friday before deepening over western Victoria on Saturday then moving eastwards across the remainder of the State on Christmas Day.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayLocal early fog in the south and morning drizzle patches in Gippsland. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the eastern ranges, mainly in the afternoon. A dry and mostly sunny afternoon in the west. Mild in Gippsland and along the coastal fringe but warm over the remainder. Light and variable winds inland but moderate to fresh east to southeasterlies on the coast with fresh afternoon seabreezes.Fire Danger -  High in the southwest. Low to moderate elsewhere.Friday 23 DecemberIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the central and eastern ranges, mainly in the afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Warm to hot with light and variable winds and fresh afternoon seabreezes along the coast.Saturday 24 DecemberScattered showers and local thunderstorms in the east. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing over most other areas but remaining dry in the northwest. Warm to hot and humid with light north to northeast wind tending moderate northwest to westerly in the afternoon inland. Fresh afternoon seabreezes along the coast.Sunday 25 DecemberMild in the southwest with isolated showers. Warm to hot and humid elsewhere with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing, particularly central and eastern areas. Moderate to fresh north to northwest wind, turning southwesterly from the west.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Thursday.Product IDV10310
