MELBOURNE - Dec 19/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure off the NSW coast will develop a low pressure system off the NSW south coast overnight. The low is forecast to move slowly southwards during Wednesday and Thursday before weakening east of Tasmania on Friday. A high pressure system to the west of Tasmania will drift south of Tasmania on Tuesday and Wednesday to join with a large slow moving high over New Zealand on Thursday. A weak trough of low pressure will linger inland towards the end of the week. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers or drizzle in the south contracting to Gippsland by the afternoon. Otherwise a cool to mild and partly cloudy day in the south, warmer and mostly sunny in the north. Light to moderate south to southeasterly winds, locally fresh near the coast.Fire Danger - Low to moderate.Wednesday 21 DecemberIsolated morning showers over Gippsland. Isolated afternoon showers in the northeast. Fine and partly cloudy for the remainder. A mild to warm day with light to moderate southeasterly wind, fresh about the coast.Thursday 22 DecemberIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms in the east, mainly in the afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Mild in Gippsland and along the coastal fringe but warm over the remainder. Light and variable winds although fresh afternoon seabreezes along the coast.Friday 23 DecemberIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms in the east during the afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
