MELBOURNE - Dec 19/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge of higher pressure along
the Queensland east coast. A trough in the far southwest of the state will move
slowly eastwards. A low situated southeast of Papua New Guinea is slow moving
and is expected to develop further over the next couple of days. The low is
expected to remain offshore and not affect the Queensland coast.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the western interior will extend
across southern interior districts through the rest of the afternoon and
evening. It will be fine southwest of the trough and most of the eastern
interior. Isolated showers about the east coast will be confined mostly to north
of the Wide Bay. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics will
continue with some moderate to heavy falls in the far northern Peninsula.
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the interior in a band from the
northwest to the southeast interior including the southern border ranges, will
tend scattered in the southern interior and northwest during the afternoon and
evening. It will generally remain fine southwest of the trough and most of the
eastern interior. Isolated showers will continue about the east coast generally
north of St. Lawrence.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough will remain almost stationary and again trigger showers
and thunderstorms in a band from the northwest to the southeast interior. Patchy
light rain will enter the Channel Country in the evening as a new upper level
trough approaches Queensland from the southwest. The Tasman Sea high will move
over New Zealand and continue to extend a ridge along the Queensland coast with
isolated showers. It will be fine in most parts of the eastern interior and
southwest of the trough.
Forecast for Thursday
The amplifying upper level trough will enter western Queensland increasing
shower and thunderstorm activity over most parts of the interior of the state
and extending into parts of the southeast. Apart from some early morning rain it
will be fine in the far southwest. The New Zealand will remain almost stationary
and begin to weaken, though it will continue to extend a ridge along the
Queensland coast with isolated coastal showers most parts of the coast.
Forecast for Friday
The upper trough will move over eastern Queensland with isolated showers and
thunderstorms most parts of the coastal and eastern interior districts. Showers
and thunderstorms will tend scattered in the southern and southeast interior and
along the Gulf coast. The New Zealand high will remain almost stationary and
continue to extend a ridge with isolated showers along the east Queensland
coast..
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The upper trough will move off the east coast very early on Saturday with a
deep southerly flow stabilizing conditions in western Queensland. Therefore fine
and dry weather will return to most parts of the interior. The ridge of higher
pressure will persist about the east coast with continuing coastal showers.
Showers will be enhanced in the southeast on Saturday with possible isolated
thunderstorms as an unstable air mass lingers. Showers will decrease about most
of the east coast on Sunday and Monday as the more stable air mass moves over
most of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
